The McDonald Dance Academy
Founded in 1970 by George & Ann McDonald, the McDonald Dance Academy and is now run by their daughter Maureen. The school has taught many children and adults to dance, from beginner to professional, from medallist to championship.
There are many different dancing circles, whether you are a social dancer, or want to take your gold medal in dancing, competition dancer, or whether you want to take professional exams in ballroom and latin American dancing, or a primary school dancing project, our school can help you on your way.
We teach Ballroom (Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot, Tango, Viennese Waltz), Latin American (Rumba, Samba, Cha Cha Cha, Jive, Paso Doble), Classical and Modern Sequence Dances, Argentine Tango, Salsa, Ballroom & Latin American Formation Teams, Jitterbug/Rock N Roll, First Wedding Dance. We are a team of 7 professional teachers and 7 student teachers.
McDonald Dance Academy is working on two projects; the first is the restoration project. To renovate the old mill style building with modern facilities and to make it more energy efficient and eco-friendly. Modernisation required: Roof repairs, updated toilet and kitchen area, new dance floors and stair carpets, electrical repairs, fire doors, wall and roof insulation, new windows etc. The second part of the project is to create a ‘wardrobe’ of dance costumes which the children can borrow when they dance in regional or national competitions. This would enable them to get on the competition floor, and feel part of a team and impress the judges.
